Comprises letters of Lieutenant P. J. Smith, D. S. O., written to his family (mother, father and sisters) while on active service during World War One, 8 July 1915-25 September 1918. Letters are signed "Jim" and are written from Egypt, France, and England. The letters from England were written between August 1916 and July 1917 while he was recovering from an injury.
